Korambu Mridanga Kalari

Mridangamela , a unique musical ensemble, has a rich rooted history . Here's a brief overview:

  • Founder: Mridangacharya Late Sri. Korambu Subrahmaniyan Namboodiri, a renowned mridangam exponent, developed Mridangamela and founded Korambu Mridanga Kalari in Irinjalakuda.
  • Inspiration: The idea of Mridangamela was blessed by Kanji Madathipathi Sri. Jayendra Saraswathi Swamikal, who appreciated the ensemble's performance and encouraged its growth.
  • First Performance: Korambu Subrahmaniyan Namboodiri's 14 students performed Mridangamela for the first time at Chembai Sangeetholsavam in Guruvayur, which was well-received by the audience.
  • Naming: The term "Mridangamela" was coined by Shri. Vettikkara Radhakrishnan, a parent of one of Namboodiri's students, during a performance at Koodalmanikyam temple.

  • Legacy: Korambu Mridanga Kalari, founded by Sri. Korambu Subrahmaniyan Namboodiri, continues to promote Mridangamela and nurture young talent.
